چکیده

In a distributed system which consists of unknown number of machines, many task clustering heuristics have been proposed in order to satisfy requirements such as determining the number of machines and minimizing response time for scheduling Directed Acyclic Graph(DAG). However, those heuristics are not aware of the actual number of existing machines, because their objective is only to minimize response time. As a result, the number of machines determined by an existing task clustering may exceed the number of actually existing machines. Therefore, conventional approaches adopt merging each cluster for reducing the number of clusters at the expense of increase of response time. In this paper, we present a static cluster size determination method and requirements for a task clustering in order to suppress response time while reducing the number of clusters. Our experimental evaluation by simulation shows the effectiveness of a task clustering which adopts the requirements.

Static Task Allocation in Distributed Systems Using Parallel Genetic Algorithm

Over the past two decades, PC speeds have increased from a few instructions per second to several million instructions per second. The tremendous speed of today's networks as well as the increasing need for high-performance systems has made researchers interested in parallel and distributed computing. The rapid growth of distributed systems has led to a variety of problems. Task allocation is a...

Compromise Scheme for Assigning Tasks on a Homogeneous Distributed System

—We consider the problem of assigning tasks to homogeneous nodes in the distributed system, so as to minimize the amount of communication, while balancing the processors' loads. This issue can be posed as the graph partitioning problem. Given an undirected graph G=(nodes, edges), where nodes represent task modules and edges represent communication, the goal is to divide n, the number of process...

Pre-scheduling and Scheduling of Task Graph on Homogeneous Multiprocessor Systems

Task graph scheduling is a multi-objective optimization and NP-hard problem. In this paper a new algorithm on homogeneous multiprocessors systems is proposed. Basically, scheduling algorithms are targeted to balance the two parameters of time and energy consumption. These two parameters are up to a certain limit in contrast with each other and improvement of one causes reduction in the othe...

Load Balancing of Indivisible Unit Size Tokens in Dynamic and Heterogeneous Networks

The task of balancing dynamically generated work load occurs in a wide range of parallel and distributed applications. Diffusion based schemes, which belong to the class of nearest neighbor load balancing algorithms, are a popular way to address this problem. Originally created to equalize the amount of arbitrarily divisible load among the nodes of a static and homogeneous network, they have be...
